Coated fabrics are used almost exclusively for outerwear garments: raincoats, ski wear, snowboard apparel, and other outdoor clothing. The coating can be liquid material that is spread on the fabric and cured to stay on the surface: liquid rubber, oil, wax, PVC, (petroleum-based polyvinyl chloride) liquid, or foam.
